Unified Protocol for Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders in Adolescents

About this course

This virtual presentation provides an Overview of the Unified Protocol (UP) for Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders in Adolescents, which is an empirically-supported treatment for a range of psychological conditions (e.g., generalized anxiety disorder, social phobia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, major depressive disorder). The UP was designed to improve upon single-diagnosis protocols (e.g., CBT for panic) given that most individuals' mental health symptoms span diagnostic categories and are maintained by a common mechanism (emotional avoidance). The treatment is emotion-focused, workbook-guided and modular, containing skills from the cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness/acceptance-based traditions.

  • Dean Malec, PhD

    Dr. Dean Malec is a licensed psychologist and Director of Training for CEBT. He treats adolescents and adults with a variety of presenting problems, including eating disorders, anxiety and mood disorders, and difficulties with emotion regulation. Valuing evidence-based practices within the context of cultural humility, Dr. Malec welcomes working with people of all identities and life experiences. Dr. Malec oversees CEBT’s practicum/internship program and provides clinical supervision to trainees.
